A forensic archivist discovers an impossible pattern among people who vanished across the United States. Years before each disappearance, the future victim appeared in an ordinary tourist photograph with the same woman somewhere in the background. Disney World. Mount Rushmore. Navy Pier. State fairs. Hospital waiting rooms. The woman is never centered and never clear, but she is always there. When the images spread online, investigators uncover something worse. Many victims later listed the stranger as an emergency contact, landlord, babysitter, or reference. Somehow she entered their lives slowly enough to feel familiar and completely enough to erase them.
