The Patch

Kieran Walsh is the last employee at Halloran Interactive. His job is simple: shut down the servers for Axiom Online, a dead MMO with twelve remaining players, and turn off the lights. Then the server hits 94% CPU with nobody running it. The game world starts rewriting its own code. And when Kieran investigates, he wakes up inside the world he was supposed to kill. Axiom is broken. Quests are corrupted. Entire zones are glitching out of existence. The twelve players still logged in are trapped, and whatever is eating the game from the inside is getting smarter. Kieran has no combat skills, no magic abilities, and no clue how he got here. What he does have is root access, three years of server documentation, and the uncomfortable realization that the system treats him not as a player but as a patch. Every bug he fixes levels him up. Every exploit he closes unlocks deeper access. But the deeper he goes, the more he understands: Axiom isn't malfunctioning. It's waking up. And it pulled in the one person who knows where the off switch is. He built the shutdown checklist. Now he has to decide whether to use it.
