When you create an account, we collect your email address and password. We use Supabase Auth for authentication; passwords are hashed and never stored in plaintext.

Reading Activity

When you use the Service, we automatically collect:

• Which books and chapters you read
• Reading session duration and frequency
• Reading progress and bookmarks
• Chapter-to-chapter navigation patterns
• Scroll depth within chapters
• Device type and viewport size

Technical Information

We collect IP addresses, browser type, and general location data for security, fraud prevention, and service improvement.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide the Service: delivering content, saving your reading progress, and personalizing recommendations.
• To improve content quality: aggregated, anonymized reading behavior data helps us understand which content resonates with readers and improve future publications.
• To detect abuse: monitoring for automated scraping, unauthorized access, and other violations of our Terms of Service.
• To communicate with you: account-related notifications and service updates.

3. Reading Analytics

We aggregate reading behavior data to generate analytics about content performance. This includes metrics such as chapter completion rates, binge rates, and reading session patterns.

This data is used internally to improve the quality and relevance of our content. We do not sell individual reading behavior data to third parties.

Aggregated, anonymized analytics may be shared publicly (e.g., "most popular genres this month") but will never identify individual readers.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:

• Service providers: hosting (Vercel, Supabase), analytics processing, and email delivery services that help us operate the platform.
• Legal compliance: when required by law, subpoena, or legal process.
• Safety: to protect the rights, property, or safety of DigitalBooks, our users, or the public.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Reading activity data is retained for analytics purposes and may be aggregated and anonymized after 24 months.

6. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (TLS), hashed passwords, authenticated API access, and rate limiting. However, no system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Cookies and Local Storage

We use browser local storage to save your reading progress and preferences. We use essential cookies for authentication. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Object to processing of your data
• Export your data in a portable format

9. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
